Job No. 317.80

OVERVIEW:
This System is Developed to Collect and Plot 3-Dimensional Data about a

Sample. The Sample is Mounted on the Table that is Allowed to Move as Directed

Along the X, Y, and Z-Axes. Movement in Each Axis is Controlled by a Linear

Encoder and a Screw Drive Motor. Each Screw Drive has an Optical Limit Switch,

Which Prevents the Table from Driving to The End Stops, and a Home Limit

Switch which Defines the Home Position for the Table.

The Table is Directed to Move Along the X-Axis a Distance Defined as the Width

of the Sample Area. A Stylus Mounted on an Extensometer Rides the Contour of

the Sample as the Table Moves along the X-Axis. Changes in the Sample Contour

cause Changes in the Extensometer Output. When the Profile is Complete the

Table Lowers a Specified Displacement Clearance to Allow the Stylus to Clear

the Sample, then Moves Across the Sample along the X-Axis and Steps the Table

a Specified Increment along the Y-Axis for the next Profile. As the Stylus

Follows the Contour, the Contour Changes are Plotted on the Monitor and each

Data Point is Stored in the Data File.

The Operator Uses Capture to Define the Sample Area and Starting Point, as

well as the Number of Data Points Collected for each Profile and the Step

Increment Between Profiles. The Collected and Saved Data can then be used to

Compare with Another Profile Run. The Collected Data can be Analyzed Using the

Ansur Application, or it can be Converted for use with Spreadsheet

Applications, such as Excel.
